A Promise

September is World Alzheimer’s Month. On the morning of September 30, 2012 the Brothers of Gamma Chapter met up at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens to volunteer and participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s that took place in each of the five boroughs in New York. Brothers pooled donations together on behalf of Nu Alpha Phi’s Gamma Chapter in order to contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association to help support Alzheimer’s research and care programs. Those who registered to take part in this event received a Promise Flower as a token of their commitment to remember, to honor, to care, and to fight Alzheimer’s disease.

There were four different flowers available, each with a different meaning. Brothers happened to either hold an orange Promise Flower or a purple Promise Flower. Orange flowers mean: I support the cause and a vision of a world without Alzheimer’s. Purple Flowers mean: I have lost someone to Alzheimer’s. Most of the Brothers held an orange flower with the exception of Chris “Triton” Lee losing a family member to Alzheimer’s disease.
